Since 2007 Peter Tjan has been a Brussels based consultant, advising the European Commission, MEPs and commercial clients on Energy, Climate and Environment policy since 2007; most recently focusing on issues related to the Emissions Trading System (ETS), Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), the implementation of the Renewable Energy Directive, transport fuels, energy taxation and the prospects of the European oil and gas refining and marketing industry.
For the previous six years, Peter was Secretary General of the European Petroleum Industry Association (EUROPIA) and represented the industry to the European Institutions.
Prior to this, Peter spent 25 years with Royal Dutch Shell, gaining experience in all aspects of the oil and gas refining and marketing industry and occupying progressively more senior positions in the commercial, lubricants and special products business. He lived and worked in Canada, the US, the UK and the Netherlands and also provided strategic advice on business activities in Asia and Central and South America.
Peter is a Chemical Engineer and holds a Ph.D degree in Catalysis from Delft University (The Netherlands). He is married with one son and divides his spare time between skiing, (some) golf, classic cars and walks on the beach with the family’s dog.
